Saturday
8:30-10:00 am
Led by community leaders of the Mendota
Mdewakanton Dakota (Sioux)community,
we will visit two sites which are sacred to them,
and also which are sites whose future is uncertain.
Coldwater Spring (Minne owe sni) and Pilot Knob (Oheyawahi, "a hill much
visited")
straddle the confluence of the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers
at what the Mendota Mdewakanton consider the center of their world.
Because these sites are also located at the hub of Fort Snelling,
the first U.S. military establishment in the region and now the airport,
they are also sites of considerable interest to developers.
Advanced Registration Required.
Bus departs from the lot west of Northwestern Hall.
